Health benefits of Lime - Aurvedic Herbal Treatment

Lime has several health benefits. Here’s how a dash of it can help improve your health. One 1 cup of raw lime juice is mostly water, however it contains some fiber, sugars, calcium, potassium, Vitamin C, folate, Vitamin E and Vitamin K. Since citrus fruits are some of the most highly sprayed crops, I would strongly recommend organic limes to minimize toxic exposures. In Ayrveda lemon is used for treatment in following:-

Digestion: Lime has an irresistible scent which causes the mouth to water. So, it aids primary digestion (the digestive saliva floods your mouth even before you taste it). The acids in it do the rest.

Constipation: Primarily, ample acids present in lime help clear the excretory system by washing and cleaning the tracts. The roughage in the lime also helps ease constipation. An overdose of lime juice with salt also acts as an excellent purgative without any side effects, thereby giving relief from constipation.

Peptic Ulcer: In addition to vitamin-C, lime contains special compounds called flavonoids (limonoids such as limonin glucoside) which have antioxidant, anti carcinogenic, antibiotic and detoxifying properties to help heal peptic and oral ulcers.

Respiratory disorders: The oil containing flavonoids and certain oils extracted from lime are extensively used in anti congestive medicines such as balms, vaporizers and inhalers.

Retain lip color: Scrubbing your lips gently with lemon daily should help remove the discoloration, but this may be harsh on your lips, so make sure you apply glycerin to your lips first. Leave the lemon and glycerin on for at least ten minutes before washing off. You could also do the same at night, and sleep with lemon on your lips.

Use of lime juice : Limes contain high levels of citric acid, so there is a slight chance of acidity, but since you dilute the lime juice with water, this is improbable. None of these are present in quantities sufficient to cause any imbalance or excess, except Vitamin C, which is harmless even in large quantities. However, you should make sure that the lime juice you are drinking does not contain added sugar or preservatives.

Some people have food sensitivities toward citrus fruits --so for them, eating citrus is not a good idea. Because you combine lime juice and berries, you are getting a good combination of vitamins and antioxidants. Sounds yummy, as long as you don't add too much sugar!. Chemicals that are used as preservatives or other common additives in bottled fruit juices can be harmful in large quantities, while excessive consumption of sugar is the cause of a number of health problems.
