Biotechnology -Career, Qualification, Demand, Salary and Major institution Guide


There are many ares like Genetics, food production, disease where intervention of biotechnology has been exceeded. Therefore demand of Biotechnologist has been increased so much in areas like Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Engineering, Food Science, Agriculture and Animal Science. It has enormous opportunities for progress, If the student wish to pursue careers in it.

According to a survey of Association of Biotech Led Enterprises, in year 2008-2009, India earned revenue of $ 2.67 billion according to the 18 percent growth in the biotechnology sector. India also ranks among top 12 bio-tech destination. Based on the number of biotech company in Asia Pacific Region, India is in third place.

Biotechnology : This is an area of Applied Biology in which engineering, technology, medicine, etc. have been included in the Living Things. Human insulin gene could be cloned only because of the Biotechnology, by which Biologically Functional insulin production became possible. It helped to facilitate the treatment of Diabeties. Moreover, treatment of many diseases became possible. Biotechnology has made remarkable presence in every field of our life, even plants are began to be Modified genetically to increase the yield and survive in less nutrient.

Enual Mohammed Anaul Kabir Head of the School of Biotechnology National Institute of Technology, Calicut says that We have seen tremendous increase in the region of Biotechnology, due to heavy investment from both the sector government and private. Specialized Biotechnologist having higher degree are in great demand. Professionals with diverse backgrounds are always needed in private companies, to communicate well with costumers, in order to selling the product they can get jobs into Government or Corporate Research and Development Organization. Biotechnologist can also work as a research scientist or assistant research scientist.

How Much Can you earn : As a junior scientist you can earn 2.4-3.5 lakhs on per Annam basis in private sector. You can join as a Scientist Research Fellow on entry level. Private pharmaceutical companies give 20 to 30 thousand per month to Entry Level Graduates. You can earn 12 to 14 thousands per month on government sector. The Next level is of Research Scientist, Research Fellow who has to manage the team. After the Research Scientist The Next level is of Research Leader.

Post graduation (M.S. or M.Tech.) degree has a great value in the area of biotechnology. Some universities also offers PHD and Post Doctorate degree. Furthermore students can also do alternate coursed like law, management or journalism etc. after Bachelor or Master degree in Biotechnology

    Hello sir i have done Btech in coputer science i have options to choose Biotechnology and Nanotechnology as my Mtech specialization but i am fearing with syllabus as i have heared that the course syllabs is so different from what i have learned, i haave to study the subject like physics and chemistry can you help me, or suggest your views on my problem...
